Rita many decades of advocacy for people in need has earned her a richly deserved accolade, in the form of the British Empire Medal (BEM), awarded by HM The Queen for services to the community. A well-known and respected figure on Stretford’s Trees Estate, Rita has dedicated many years to helping the younger and older generations to live harmoniously there together. A much-loved playground and nature trail, built with volunteer help and funding secured by the neighbourhood’s long-running Residents Association, is testimony to the success of Rita’s hands-on approach.
Equally at home around the seats of political power, Rita has campaigned effectively for the peoples’ voice to be heard at times of change and challenge. Rita's mentorship will ensure great grassroots projects can access investment to start and grow.
